Set in Imperial Russia's Pale of Settlement, "Fiddler on the Roof," a 1905 stage production with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, book by Joseph Stein, and music by Jerry Bock is gleaned from stories by Sholem Aleichem, such as "Tevye and His Daughters" (also known as "Tevye the Dairyman"). The protagonist of the narrative is Tevye, a milkman from a nearby village in Anatevka. As outer social influences interfere on his family's life, he challenges the citizens of his town to uphold its Jewish religious and social morals. Tevye must recognize the fact that his three older daughters are independent and eager to find love on their own terms; he is growing less and less fond of their choice potential husbands. In the end, tsarist law forces the Jews to leave their neighborhood.

Nine Tony Awards have been given to this stage production, including ones for best musical, score, book, direction, and choreography. Five Broadway revivals of it followed, a hugely successful 1971 film adaptation, and its influence is still around today. Additionally, it has frequently been employed for community and academic productions. To cheers and applause, a number of well-known musical hits will be performed, including "Tradition," "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were A Rich Man," "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," and "To Life (L'Chaim!)". This is a must-see for audiences of musical theater.
